Orientation meetings
Most states require you to attend an orientation meeting before you even submit an application. These meetings are generally around an hour or two. You will learn a little bit about the adoption process for your particular state, and somewhat about the kids that are available for adoption. This is a good time to meet other parents who are beginning the process. You can become a support system for each other while you are going through the dreaded waiting process, and possibly become respite providers for each other once you have a placement.
